PORT Isaac RNLI’s running team has been selected to represent the organisation in the official London Marathon entry for 2019.
The ‘Port Isaac Lifeboat Appeal Marathon Team’, which was selected by RNLI Head Quarters events organisers, will join 100 approved RNLI marathon runners taking part in the huge event, which attracted more than 40,000 runners in 2018.
The team has a fundraising aim of £10,000 dedicated to the Port Isaac new boat appeal — to buy a new D Class lifeboat. £52,000 is required to fund a new lifeboat, which will replace the existing, ageing boat.
The Port Isaac Lifeboat Appeal Marathon Team are — paramedic Richard Hambly, current station launching authority, previously crew and helmsman serving for 30 years; medical receptionist, and wife to Richard, Carol Hambly, former Port Isaac RNLI committee secretary; solicitor Greg Hingley, ex-Port Isaac RNLI crew member for eight years, who has run previous marathons for the RNLI; pharmaceutical representative Clair Johnson, wife to current helmsman Ian Johnson.
The team will be planning fundraising events in the coming months. To support them, donations can be made on www.justgiving.com/fundraising/port-isaac-marathon-runners
