Anthony and Beryl Daniel of Rilla Mill, who successfully completed the London Marathon in April, are opening their garden on Sunday, July 19 to raise further funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Anthony and Beryl had run nearly 600 miles before they even got to the start line of the London Marathon on Sunday, April 26. Anthony finished his first marathon in 4:20:46 and Beryl finished in 4:28:23. It was Beryl's second London Marathon and she managed to knock 20 minutes off her 2008 time. The couple trained for seven months for the event and had run nearly 600 miles before they got to the start line! Beryl said: "It was a great day, well worth all the lonely, sometimes dark and dismal conditions that we had to run in throughout the winter to get in shape for the big day. The marathon day was beautifully hot and sunny, the streets were lined with supporters, several deep in places. We had lots of encouragement, the crowds were behind us all — all 35,000 of us! It was a totally unique experience, that we would repeat if we get the chance again. Anthony had not experienced anything like it before, nothing in our area captures what London has." The couple ran in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society as Beryl's uncle, Tom Humber, has had MS for some time. She said: "We wanted to get some funding put into support for sufferers and research and development." Beryl and Anthony are continuing their fundraising until the end of July and on July 19 will be holding an open garden at their home, Higher Westcott, Rillaton, Rilla Mill, from 2pm to 6pm. They plan to turn it into a whole afternoon with a pretty circular woodland and riverside walk of approximately 1.5 miles.
