“IT’S even better than last year,” was the comment made by a number of people who visited the village flower festival at the Delabole Methodist Church held from August 5 to 7.
The theme of the festival was ’Royal Moments’ which was depicted in the 34 floral arrangements ranging in subject matter such as the Queen’s Speeches, the Changing of the Guard — with full size painting of a guard — the Coronation, the Royal Yacht Britannia, the death of a Princess and jubilee celebrations.
Reflecting on the flower festival the Rev Bryan Ede said: “The open plan of the building and the good light levels make the displays a delight to see.”
The flower festival was opened by Rev Ede on the Friday morning with a short act of worship, and concluded with a Songs of Praise on the Sunday evening led by the Rev Angela Cooper and Rev Ede with accompaniment on organ and piano by Mrs Maria Nicholls and Stuart Biddick.
The Sunday morning service focused on some of the flower festival themes using hymns that had been used on royal occasions.
The service was led by Rev Bryan and Mrs Sue Ede with Miss Helen Hicks at the organ and Mr Biddick at the piano.
The festival was visited by people from the local community, friends from around the district, holiday makers and some from a distance who make a visit to the event a part of their yearly activity.
For some 30 years the donations at the festival have been given to the Cornish Hospices who this year will find their funds enhanced by £682.
