At around 11.20pm on Wednesday, August 26, police were called to reports of a man sat on a factory rooftop in Launceston, threatening to jump off.

On arrival at Hurdon Road, officers found the 39-year-old sat on the roof, around 30 feet high with his legs dangling over the edge.

Police said he was seen to be drinking out of a bottle of alcohol and he was allegedly quite abusive below on the ground.

Officers entered into dialogue with the man from the ground, whilst other officers made their way up onto the rooftop.

While up on the roof he was distracted by officers below, and the officers on the roof could see that he was becoming increasingly agitated and they feared for his safety.

When an opportunity arose to restrain the man, it was taken, and he was successfully subdued on the roof, handcuffed and then brought safely to the ground with the assistance of the fire service who used a cherry picker to bring him safely to the ground.

The local man was arrested at around midnight and later underwent a medical assessment and released for medical treatment.
