A 60-YEAR-OLD man died after he tried to save his son when he got into difficulties during a fishing trip at Tregardock over the Easter weekend.
Just after 8.30am on Sunday, police were alerted by the Coastguard of an incident at Tregardock beach near Delabole.
Two men, a father and son, had been fishing at the beach but as they left, a wave swept the son into the sea.
The father threw him a lifebelt, but as he was pulling him to safety, another wave washed the father into the sea.
The two men were in the water for about 30 minutes before being rescued, by crew from the Port Isaac lifeboat, who brought them ashore.
Tragically, the father died following the incident. His name had not been released as the 'Post' went to press.
The son was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, Truro, where he was later released.
