AN elderly man from Launceston was air lifted to hospital after he sustained ‘serious head injuries’ as a result of a collision on Sunday, September 25.

The 83-year-old pedestrian had been walking along Western Road, Launceston at some time before 11.30am and was somewhere just outside the Town Hall at the time of the incident when he was in collision with a grey Peugeot 206. Members of the public were quick to offer aid to the man and help police with traffic control.

Launceston police wrote on their Facebook page: “Launceston Police would like to say a big thank to all the members of the public who help out initially with the care of the casualty and traffic control at the collision on Western Road, Launceston. Their help was much appreciated. As for the condition of the gent we have had no word yet.”

The man sustained serious head injuries as a result of the collision and was air lifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he remains critical at the time the Post went to press.

A specialist forensic investigator later attended the scene and police from the serious collision investigation team are appealing for any information surrounding the incident.
