LOCALLY renowned ‘Holsworthy Mafia’ members held their inaugural evening quiz on Saturday at the White Hart Hotel, Holsworthy, which raised £500 for the Holsworthy Community First Responders.

Fifteen teams entered and each team elected a mafia name to be entered under, including; The Mafioso, The Mob, The Racketeers, The Cosa Nostra, The Wise Guys, The Enforcers, The Godfathers, The Loan Sharks, The Associates, The Young Turks, The Captain’s of Industry, The Gangsters, The Hit Men, The Stool Pigeons and The Elder Statesman.

Over the evening many questions were asked about music, general knowledge and even questions relating to the history of Holsworthy and of course a picture round with Mafia actors. Raffle prizes were also donated from local businesses.

A spokesperson for the event, who shall remain anonymous, said: “This was a great way to show what a great community we have and how everyone came together for a wonderful fundraising event.”

The money raised was donated to the Holsworthy Community First Responders — local people who attend emergencies within their local communities. Their role is to provide reassurance prior to the arrival of an ambulance during an incident as well as administering life saving skills.

At the end of the evening, the winning quiz team was, The Wise Guys. They received the ‘Colin Punter Memorial Shield’ and a bottle of wine each.

Speaking about why they chose to dedicate the award to the former deputy mayor who sadly passed away earlier this year after a short battle with cancer, the spokesperson said: “As the community are aware Colin Punter was, as described that evening, ‘a legend’ — he was Holsworthy deputy mayor who did a vast amount for Holsworthy.”

The shield was presented by Kerry Wilcox, Colin’s daughter.

The spokesperson added: “Holsworthy Mafia would like to thank everyone who attend, helped on the evening and participated.”

Plans are already in motion for another quiz evening to be held soon.
