A GROUP of Macmillan supporters, lead by Nick Gannon from Launceston, have hiked up Mount Snowdon and raised more than £1,000 to help people affected by cancer.
Nick, 31, is a member of the ‘Macmillan Launceston Fundraising Group’. He said: “I wanted to do something because my two younger brothers have both had cancer and received support through Macmillan services at Derriford Hospital and in Taunton. So, I came up with the idea of hiking up Mount Snowdon in Wales and everyone jumped on it.”
Nick joined by his wife Mandy and eight members of family and friends — two of which had travelled all the way from Northampton.
Every member of the group had seen a member of their family or friends affected by cancer.
The hike took place on Tuesday, October 17, and took the group more than five hours to complete but the group were pleased to be able to collect some donations along the way.
Nick said: “We want to say thanks to everyone that sponsored us for this challenge. We are delighted to have raised such an amazing amount to help people affected by cancer.”
Sian Ward-Edwards, fundraising manager for Macmillan, said: “We are so grateful to the group for taking on this challenge and raising such a fantastic amount. We rely on donations to continue helping the growing number of people affected by cancer.
“This donation could pay for over 34 hours of care from one of our specialist cancer nurses based in out local hospitals!”
