CAMELFORD Show demonstrated ‘lovely camaraderie’ this year, according to a local Slimming World manager who was scouting for new recruits.
Although her tent had collapsed due to the weather, Julie Ferris, Slimming World manager of North Cornwall and part of North Devon, was armed with non-alcoholic Pimms, healthy snacks and recipes to tempt possible slimmers and consultants to the local groups in and around the area.
She said: “We’re scouting for recruits, as we’re expanding so much now! We’re reaching 1% of the population, when 42% need our help. Today we’re looking for more consultants to start up more local groups, particularly in Liskeard and Bodmin.”
She explained that 40% of the Cornish population is overweight, and having looked at government statistics in obesity — particularly child obesity — in Cornwall, Julie is hoping to crack down on the problem.
Many groups in North Cornwall are now at capacity, hence the reason for attending the show and the look-out for new consultants.
