THERE are a number of activities available at the Holsworthy Library for anyone with some spare time.

Recently children from the surrounding area have been enjoying the ‘stories and drawing’ activity held during the half term week.

It is free to join the library as a member and everyone is welcome. In addition to borrowing books, DVD’s and CD’s the public are also able to download ebooks, audio books and digital magazines — with free WiFi available throughout the library.

Also, for those who want to get a little bit more hands on, there are a number of activities ranging from knitting to walking.

Pre-schools, child minders and home educators can all join the library and borrow additional books for extended loan periods — just ask a member of staff for details.

They also hold a number of regular events, which are all free to attended. There is a ‘Craft and Chatter’ group who meet on the first Thursday of every month from 2pm. This gives people a chance to meet other crafters in a friendly environment.

People can come along whether they are an experienced crafter of a novice. People are welcome to bring their own knitting, crochet or colouring along. Work can be undertaken on personal projects or people can get involved knitting ‘Twiddlemuffs’ for NHS patients living with dementia. All ages, including children, are welcome to participate.

The ‘Walking Book Group’ meets every other month. It is just like a regular book group only the books are discussed during a walk and all have a focus on the natural world. Recent walks have taken place in Bude, Hartland and Roadford Reservoir, with books including ‘Wild’ by Cheryl Strayed and ‘As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning’ by Laurie Lee.

The ‘Library Lions Book Group’ meet on the second Tuesday of each month between 4pm and 4.45pm during term time only. This is a fun and friendly book group for children aged seven to ten. Places are limited so it is advised that those who want to join in contact the library staff to book a place.

The library also often run craft sessions for children in the school holidays and advertise these in the library, on posters around Holsworthy and through their Facebook page.
