TO celebrate the 40th anniversary of their formation, the Camelford Committee of Cancer Research UK held a complimentary cream tea at Bowood Park Golf Club.
They also received a plaque from Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall Col Edward Bolitho to celebrate their anniversary and for raising more than £350,000 for Cancer Research UK, which was accepted by Sally Moore who thanked everyone for their support and generosity over the years.
On behalf of the chairman Pam Boundy and members of the committee, honorary secretary Madge Walkey welcomed Col Bolitho, the regional manager for the South West of Cancer Research UK Sam Williams and area manager Sophie Barber.
MP for North Cornwall Scott Mann was unable to attend due to a debate in the House of Commons on the EU withdrawal bill, but sent a letter thanking everyone for their work over so many years.
Madge also welcomed as guests the many people attending including past members who have given great support over the years and helped the committee to raise such a large amount of money.
Col Bolitho addressed those present, thanked the chairman and the committees for their invitation and congratulated the committee on reaching their 40th anniversary before presenting badges for their service to Pam, Ang Goodman and Sally.
Joan Goodman was unable to attend so her husband, Sid, collected it on her behalf.
Ang presented Col Bolitho with a small gift as a token of thanks from the committee.
Sam congratulated the committee on reaching their 40th anniversary and gave a resume of the work of Cancer Research UK and details of the progress being made in research to finding cures for the many types of cancer.
She also thanked everyone present for their support of the committee over many years.
With the formal part of the afternoon over, it was time for cream teas, ably served by committee members Lyn Oliver, Jan Stratfield and Pam Lyons, assisted by Mandy Galley and Claire Walkey.
All those present were delighted that Col Bolitho and Sam took the opportunity to meet and have a chat with so many people.
It was then time for the cutting of the beautifully iced cake. This was done by Col Bolitho resplendent in his uniform. He was helped in this task by Nicky Hill.
Col Bolitho brought the afternoon to a close by leading everyone present in singing happy birthday to Jill Pyke who was celebrating her 91st birthday.
