IN December the Holsworthy Lions Club presented Duncan Ball from Bude with a cheque for £200 after he took part in ‘The Long Walk Home’.

The event saw 100 military veterans, including Duncan who is ex-Army, walk 100 miles to commemorate the end of the First World War.

The walk started at the Menin Gate, in Ypres, Belgium, on November 7 and finished at the Cenotaph London on November 10.

All walkers were then honoured to take part in the national service of remembrance at the cenotaph on November 11.

The long walk home was a sponsored event in aid of Haig Housing which is a charity that provides tailored housing for injured serviceman.

Duncan said he is ‘immensely grateful’ to Holsworthy Lions, former work colleagues, family and friends after raising more than £1,900 for this very worthwhile charity.
