In June of this year the Women's Section of the St Gennys Branch of the Royal British Legion decided to fold and members laid up their standard in St Gennys Church. The Women's Section had been in existence for over 70 years. One of the longest serving members was Mrs Ruth Gliddon, who joined in 1942, since when she has played a very active part. For 22 years she was the Poppy Appeal organiser for St Gennys and has also been chairman, standard bearer and organiser of many fund raising events. At the laying up ceremony, tributes were paid to Ruth for her loyalty and dedication to the work of the Royal British Legion and she was the recipient of a long service certificate.
