THE Holsworthy Lions Club winter fun day is the biggest and one of the best events in the Lions calendar and this year’s event was no exception.

Held in Holsworthy’s Memorial Hall car park, the event was a huge success — it really was a day to remember.

The rain held off as the coaches arrived with visitors ready to have a day packed full of fun.

This year saw over 300 guests from all around the south west of England, most of whom look forward to this day all year.

The Lions Club raises money all year round to fund this fun day from bucket collections, Easter egg draws and speed pool events, to name a few.

Member of the Lions Club, Tam Hutchings, said: “We entertained the visitors to an array of activities ranging from a disco to pony and donkey rides, face painting to a balloon man, but the main attraction for most is always the much loved dodgem track, which is undoubtedly the highlight of the day for most.”

The Lions Club is never short of helpers for this event. Many Lions Clubs in the region flock in to help be part of this wonderful event bringing with them a hotdog trailer, candy floss machine and a sweet shop. This year members from Launceston, Tavistock, Okehampton, South Molton, Bideford and Lynton and Lynmouth Lions Clubs, plus many more helpers from Holsworthy Explorer Scouts, Holsworthy Fire Station, Holsworthy Rotary Club and HATS, and many more, joined in the fun and helped out.

The local neighbourhood police team also got involved bringing along their popular mascot ‘Bravo’ the police dog.

Tam said: “On behalf of all from the Holsworthy Lions Club, a massive thank you to all that played a part in this day.

“It was an absolute delight to see the smiles, hear the laughter and experience the sheer delight on the visitors faces throughout the day and we hope to do this for many more years to come.”

In attendance on the day was Holsworthy’s mayor Jon Hutchings. He said: “I think it is fantastic what the Lions do, providing this event for the disabled. It is great to have it here in Holsworthy and long may it continue!”
