Sir, It is good that Tenby attracts major sporting events, and to be expected that residents will suffer a certain amount of disruption, but would the success of the Long Course Weekend have been any the less if we had not been shaken from our beds at 6.30 on Saturday morning by loud thumping music and idiots shouting into microphones? Does the licensing authority give the organisers carte blanche when sanctioning an event? Does it monitor the events in any way - watching sound levels, etc? Does it ever consider giving local residents a say? Hysterical over-excitement seems to dog most sports these days, but I'd bet a pound to a penny that last week's participants would have had just as much fun without all the early-morning racket.

Keith Clarke, Tenby.
