ST MARK'S Primary School in Morwenstow has been chosen by The Royal Society — the UK's national academy of science — to receive a Partnership Grant that will enable local scientists and engineers to work with teachers from the school to implement an innovative science project.

The project, titled 'Power', aims to teach children more about renewable energy.

It will see pupils from Foundation Stage to Year 6, aged between four-and-eleven-years-old, take on the challenge of working with different natural energy sources and construction kits to power machines and mechanisms.

As well as the partner scientist, children will work with local environmental education organisation, Camp Kernow to gain practical, hands-on experience of how renewable energy technologies work.

The project offers young people the chance to meet and work with local scientists and engineers and allows them to build and develop their scientific understanding in a way that is exciting, original and relevant to their lives.
