WHILST the 'Post' website and Radio Cornwall reeled off the names of hundreds of school closures throughout Cornwall last week due to snow and icy conditions, two local primary schools managed to open on Thursday and Friday. South Petherwin and Tregadillett Schools both opened their doors to the children.
Although not all staff could get to school, both head teachers commended those that could for making the effort to travel in the icy conditions in order to get to work, with governors and parents also offering to help in order to keep the schools open.
At South Petherwin over 90 of the 105 pupils attended each day and Tregadillett saw up to 60 children attend. So what did the children think?
"Brilliant fun! We don't see snow very often — long may it last!" said Alina Nuta (age 10).
"We get to do snow experiments in Science, snow poems and snow adventure stories in Literacy." There were even some snow survival skills to be learnt.
Playtime was a fabulous feast of sunshine and snow. Where else would you get to play with all your friends at once in the snow?
