A VERY brave mayor of Holsworthy took her chances during Holsworthy & Stratton Agricultural Show on Thursday and approached ‘Boyzee’ the Welsh Black bull to try and ascertain his weight.

Cllr Jo Heaven was given three guesses, with her donation going toward the final pot which was to be split between the winner of the competition and Children’s Hospice South West.

Cllr Heaven was only too keen to have a guess, but wasn’t so enthusiastic when asked to get closer to the bull.

The Post spoke to Cllr Heaven to get her reaction: “Well it’s a bull isn’t it, what can I say — he is a fine specimen of a beast!”

Whilst coaxing Boyzee into having his photograph taken the handler gave him a biscuit, to which Cllr Heaven exclaimed: “I want to change my guess, he has just had a biscuit — that will make him heavier!”

In the end, Cllr Heaven’s guesses of 1,245kilos, 1,120kilos and 1,330kilos proved to be a bit ambitious with Boyzee weighing in at a prize winning weight of 1,140kilos.

The winning guess was made by Mr Steven Cottle, who requested the full amount be given to the chosen charity. £250 was donated to Children’s Hospice South West.
