ABOUT 30 people from local churches met at the Roman Catholic Church of St Cuthbert Mayne for a very short pilgrimage in Launceston, and walked down to the Priory ruins for an open air service.
They carried a cross and banners. After some hymn singing accompanied by clarinet and harp in nearby St Thomas’ church and the presentation of gifts for the Launceston Food Bank in memory of the monks who used to feed the poor, everyone went to the nearby hall for refreshments.
Worship was led by the Rev Malcolm Jones, the Rev Teresa Folland and Canon David Annear, and the homily was given by local expert Arthur Wills.
The PA system was provided by Brian Horrell. The event was arranged by the Friends of Launceston Priory with several Churches Together committee members in attendance.
The committee of the Friends of Launceston Priory hopes that this act of witness will become an annual event.
