IT HAS been another successful year for Waitrose & Partners Holsworthy as they continue to support local charities through their Community Matters monthly green token scheme — with December’s collection for the Holsworthy & District Stroke Club being the highest amount awarded by the customers.

Marilyn Chidley, Community Matters lead at Holsworthy, explained that each month three local charities or organisations are selected, and customers are given a green token at the end of their transaction to place in the box of the cause they’d most like to support.

Waitrose Holsworthy has a very large delivery area so it is important and fair that charities from within the whole area are given the same opportunity of selection. In total 36 charities have been supported in 2018, with 17 of those being based in Holsworthy. These include the Beavers, Cubs and Scout groups, community hospital, Walk and Talk Group, youth club, St Johns Ambulance, carnival committee, the primary school and community college, the social club defibrillator appeal, Holsworthy Men’s Shed and Holsworthy Rubies WI.

In total £6,738 was received by these groups from the £12,000 Community Matters budget. December’s collection saw Holsworthy & District Stroke Club receive the highest amount awarded by the customers.

Holsworthy and District Stroke Club hold monthly meetings at Holsworthy Hospital and have a programme of talks and visits for survivors to accelerate recovery and improve quality of life.

Anyone wishing to contact the stroke group can do so by attending their next meeting at Holsworthy Community Hospital or by telephoning Christine Powell on 01409 281620 or email [email protected]

Outside the immediate Holsworthy area, Waitrose have also helped Great Torrington Commons, Langtree Community Garden, Bude Pilot Gig Club, Clawton Pre School, Veterans for Dogs, Ashwater Primary School, Launceston Memory Cafe, Bude Canal, Marhamchurch Pre School, Bude Cricket Club, Blake House League of Friends and Harbour Bideford.

Damian Heard Waitrose Holsworthy branch manager, said: “We are really keen to ensure we continue to play our part in the community and support those causes that matter most to our customers and we would encourage any project or charity to contact us.”
