ON Sunday February 15 'The Little Blacks' travelled to Sandy Park, Tavistock, with the pitch in good condition to play tag rugby, writes Paul Sargent.
Launceston won the toss and from the start, good passing took Launceston just short of the Tavistock try line, with Ross Jarvis going into touch.
Tavistock took possession and stormed up the pitch but put a foot into touch. Launceston went forward with pace from Jo Hunt, but she went into touch.
With some good passing Tavistock ran in a try, which was disallowed due to not handling the ball properly. Launceston broke out of their own half but the ball went forward and the referee played advantage, Tavistock scored. Edward Tait from the start broke through to score with some good passing.
Tavistock replied with another try, Launceston then showed they are capable of good forward play and support from Corey Sillifant, which led to a try from Toby Lee. Just before half time Tavistock scored again.
From the start of the second half, Tavistock scored a good try but they were shown what speed is all about when Frances took the ball from the halfway line and within a flash the ball was planted on the line for an outstanding try, with superb support and forward thinking by the team.
All in all it was very exciting to watch with good support, tagging and pace from both sides. Launceston just hung in there but deserved to win the first of their three games.
Launceston: Francis Fox, Mark Horrell, Jo Hunt, Ross Jarvis, Toby Lee, Corrie Sillifant and Edward Tait.
Try scorers: Francis Fox, Corey Sillifant and Edward Tait.
