THE founder of Bude Rubbish Action Group paid a moving visit to the Poughill Cameo Club recently, to talk about the effects of litter on the environment.
Paul Crum from Bude, who leads Bude Rubbish Action Group (BRAG), paid a visit to the Poughill Cameo Club on Thursday, October 24 to talk about the impact of litter, recycling and BRAG.
Poughill Cameo Club is run by St Olaf’s Church and serves lunch to elderly residents who may not be able to get out often. Members pay £4 and receive a hot lunch, pudding and afternoon tea and cake. After lunch, members are invited to do some crafts, watch a film or chat to one another.
Paul said: “After a quick introduction we soon got talking about litter and how to reduce its social and wildlife impact. The floor was left open for questions and answers, then we talked about make-do-and-mend and how it could have an impact on today’s society, as for a lot of people there this was second nature.
“We finished on recycling and they all admitted that they do. Their biggest worry was about the amount of plastic packaging used today. When they were growing up they just took a bag to the shops to get their vegetables, bread, and one person remarked it’s turning full circle slowly.”
He added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jackie Adams, Douglas Adams and all the other volunteers for asking me to talk to their group.”
Paul has since said he has been so impressed by the group that he has offered to volunteer some time to help with the club’s meetings.
