THE Lions Club of Launceston recently presented a cheque to the Plymouth Military Wives Choir for their charity following their support during a previous concert.

The concert took place last year in Launceston Town Hall, and the Plymouth Military Wives helped to raise funds for Lions Charities and Cornwall Cancer Care with the Boscastle Buoys.

Commitments from both the Choir and the Lions have meant that they could only recently meet up to make this presentation.

The event proved to be a successful and enjoyable evening, listening to the Plymouth Military Wives rehearsal and discovering that some of them will be setting off to America at the end of May to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York at a Musical Evening.

This event is called the Triumph of Hope, and will feature the West Monroe High School Choir and the Reno Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

There will be 125 members, invited by the Distinguished Concerts International New York City composer in residence, Paul Mealor, who wrote the Military Wives’ successful and most well-known songs ‘Wherever You Are’ and ‘In My Dreams’, which sent them to the number one spot in the UK charts.
