VARIOUS Club members of the Holsworthy & District Lions Club helped to raise money for the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal on April 2.

They held two events on the same day, some members did two-hour shifts at the Sainsbury’s store in Bude and on the same evening the Lions organised their annual speed-pool contest.

The contest was held at various pubs and clubs around the Holsworthy area and involved teams of six attempting to pot as many balls as they could in one hour.

This year’s competition was won by ‘The Shed, with 534 balls potted on one hour. The highest individual scorer was Leo McDonnell with 96 balls. The competition raised more than £950. The White Hart Hotel, Holsworthy raised the most money with £483.

The funds that were raised will go towards the Lions’ annual ‘fun day’, which will be held in November and is aimed at children and adults with disabilities.

Club president Brian Withall offered his thanks to all the pubs for their continuing support.
