Over 60 riders joined Mike Bickell on Sunday, July 19 for his charity horse ride. The ride started at Lifton Farm Shop and the riders, including people from Bude, Chagford, Yelverton, Bodmin and all parts in between, travelled along the banks of the River Tamar to Horsebridge. Mike observed that there were no fishermen out on these renowned beats, probably due to the weather. Mike said: "We had a couple of generous pitstops. One with Mr Gibson of Bradstone Manor and the other with Mr and Mrs Slee of Leat Road, Lifton, nestled beside the River Lyd." The riders stopped for around half an hour at Horsebridge before returning to Lifton via Milton Abbot School and Bradstone. The event went very well raising over £1,000, half of which will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and Derriford's Oncology Unit, with the other half going to Lamerton Hunt. Mike explained that they had decided to support Macmillan and Derriford's Oncology Unit because a long-standing friend of his, David Hocking, had recently recovered from cancer: "We're really pleased to be supporting the Oncology Unit. It's in recognition of getting him over cancer." Mike added: "The ride went without any hiccups. My sincere thanks to nearly all the farmers whose land we went over. They were nearly all very supportive."
