THE Lifton Self Preservation Society have entered a team of seven walkers into the Jurassic Coast Challenge this July.
The team will tackle a 100km walk over two days. They will set off from Poole Harbour on July 21 and end up in Bridport.
They are raising funds for the Cornwall branch of Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) in memory of Jeremy Durrant, who lost his battle to the disease in 2016.
The team are Jeremy’s wife, Emma Durrant, Sue Horler and her son Tom, Martin Vanstone, Polly Arscott, Ryan Christophers and Patrick James.
Over the past two years, this group — with varying people taking part — has raised more than £42,000.
The Post has previously reported on their fundraising efforts.
In 2016, then known as the Lifton Bikers, they managed to raise £34,000 for MNDA by cycling from John O’ Groats to Lands End.
They renamed themselves ‘Lifton Self Preservation Society’, and took on the Great River Race last autumn, rowing 21.6-miles from London Docklands to Ham in Richmond in September.
Ten men trained and seven rowed on the day, with the others acting as support crew.
They completed this race in two hours, 48 minutes, and afterwards were able to present a cheque for £8,235 to the Cornwall branch of MNDA.
Fundraising events planned so far ahead of the Jurassic Coast Challenge have included a quiz night on Friday, May 4, which raised £840, followed by a big breakfast on Monday, May 7, raising £671, both held at the recently opened Lifton Community Centre.
Thanks to another kind donation, this weekend alone has raised over £2,000.
Thanks were expressed to Lifton Farm Shop, Bray Farm Shop, and Brian Nobbs, who all donated towards the breakfast event.
