THE Lifton Bikers recently held a big breakfast at the Coronation Hall in Lifton, raising funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Taking place on Saturday, May 21, and supported by Fox and Grapes, who provided the food and venue, the event saw organisers and helpers serve approximately 100 delicious breakfasts, raising £550 overall for the cause.

Mike Wood, a member of the Lifton Bikers and one of the main organisers of the event, said: “It was a great success, and now we’ve got another big Bbreakfast coming up in August. It was mainly local people who came along, so it was good to see friends and people we know from the village come along to support the event, and there was also a lot of faces we didn’t know.

“The bikers all turned up, bringing their wives with them as well, so there were plenty of pairs of hands to help.”

The decision to fundraise for the Motor Neurone Disease Association came about when Mike and a friend, Martin Vanstone, whose brother in law, Jeremy Durrant, suffers from the disease, wanted to do something worthwhile to support not only Jeremy, but also others who suffer from the disease.

The Lifton Bikers’ fundraising has now escalated into a challenging 1,000 mile bike ride, cycling the Jogle, from John O’Groats to Lands End, and is expected to take 14 days to complete.

With the bike ride starting on September 10, the eight members of the Lifton Bikers are aiming to raise £10,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, and have already raised over £3,600 on their Just Giving page alone.

September 10 will see Mike Wood, Martin Vanstone, Paul Davies, Malcolm Bird, Luke Harris, Alastair Batten, Paul Arscott and Adam Pengelly tackle the 1,000 mile bike challenge, raising money and awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, on behalf of their close friend, Jeremy Durrant, who has suffered from the disease for three years.

The Lifton Bikers are urging as many people as possible to donate to the cause and support their fundraising events. To donate, visit their Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/LiftonBikers/donate.

There will also be an event at Lifton Strawberry Fields on July 29, with a band performance, with funds going to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
