RNLI lifeguards across North Cornwall were involved in several incidents this weekend as the Bank Holiday brought plenty of people to the coast.
With many people on the beach wishing to make the most of the long weekend, lifeguards worked hard to keep people safe in the conditions.
At Summerleaze on Sunday, RNLI lifeguards were tasked to help rescue five people on rocks, who had become cut off by the tide.
Senior lifeguards Mini Fry and Jim Scown responded on the rescue water craft and located the casualties on rocks beneath Maer High cliffs. Due to the severity of the situation, Bude RNLI was also tasked to assist. The family were successfully rescued and brought back to the lifeboat station. They were very shaken, but extremely thankful for the help of both the lifeguards and the lifeboat crew.
Ted Hambley, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor, said: “In a time critical incident all the lifeguards and lifeboat crew involved worked effectively together in a coordinated response, averting what was a very dangerous situation.
“In particular the joint training exercises that Bude lifeboat crew and Bude lifeguards have been undertaking this summer proved exceptionally useful.”
