PORT Isaac Lifeboat crew was delighted to hear from Port Isaac Rowing Club that they were planning to donate funds raised during the recent Lifeboat Larks day to the new lifeboat appeal.
Over the years, a strong bond of friendship has grown between rowing members and lifeboat crew — a strong tradition of the sea playing a leading part since the rowing gigs were first operating out of the port in the early 1800s, in line with lifeboat operations with crew members serving on both.
Current crews with Steve Hudpith, chairman of Port Isaac Rowing Club, recently presented a cheque for £240 toward the appeal, to Chris Bolton, lifeboat operations manager.
The weather was on the organisers’ sides for this summer’s Lifeboat Larks day and Port Isaac Rowing Club enjoyed taking adventurous visitors out for short ‘taster rows’ throughout the day — all in aid of charity!
The event was extremely popular, with relays of two of the club’s pilot gigs, Roscarrock and Unity, from 11am until 6pm.
A fun and busy occasion, welcoming visitors and their families from near and far, with so many keen to try the sport.
The club was delighted with the generosity of those who donated to this fundraiser, and to donate the proceeds to the Port Isaac RNLI.
