USUALLY the Coastguard is called to assist the public, but on Sunday morning RNLI teams responded to a call of their own after a lifeboat vessel capsized at Trebarwith Strand.

An emergency call was made to the coastguard at Falmouth, after the stranded crew fired a red flare at 11.30am.

Matt Pavitt (Coast Guard Sector Manager for North Cornwall) said: "It quickly became apparent that for some reason, yet to be established, the Port Isaac inshore lifeboat had got into difficulties in the strong surf at Trebarwith Strand, and capsized."
