LIBERTY Coffee, in Launceston, has been recognised nationally after being included in the top 25 coffee shops to check out, in the Sunday Times’ food magazine, ‘The Dish’.

Ben Statton has been running Liberty Coffee for four years, which is comfortably nestled within the same building that his parents’ successful bistro, Jericho’s Kitchen, resides.

On Sunday, January 8, Ben received an email from Laura Goodman, from The Dish, who informed him that his business had been included in the top 25 coffee shops to check out in the Sunday Times’ popular food magazine. To his surprise, Ben was delighted to see that Liberty Coffee had been included in the prestigious list, realising that someone from the magazine had obviously made a secret visit to try out his rich, flavoursome coffees.

Ben told the Post: “I think she had been trying to scout out different places in the country.

“We’ve been here for four years now, and it’s been four years of hard work and passion for what we do.

“I’m very proud, and it’s the fact that it’s put Launceston in it too. The town doesn’t get too much press coverage or recognition, so it’s put Launceston on the map really.”

Ben and the staff at Liberty Coffee are now looking forward to the rest of 2017, introducing more to this ever-progressing coffee shop. Ben said they will continue to do more in the afternoons, following the success of the educational coffee tasting events, usually held on a Sunday afternoon. Liberty will soon be introducing more food options for customers too.

Ben added: “I’m delighted. We’ve been in quite a few things now, and people are starting to come into the shop, so we’re starting to realise that it’s quite a big deal. I’m really proud and everyone that works here is really pleased.”
