AN active member of the Lezant community has been given a Cornwall Council Civic award at the recent ceremony held last month.

Recipient, Mary Crew has been an active member of the community, reviving the Lezant Horticultural Society, organising the floral art and garden group for over 35 years and has served as the church warden of Lezant parish church.

Cornwall Councillor Neil Burden nominated her for the award. He said: “I am very proud to nominate Mary Crew for the 2019 Cornwall Council Civic award.

“Mary is a highly respected member of the community of Lezant. On retirement Mary moved to the parish in 1976 and during the last 40 plus years has been an active member of our community.”

At the award ceremony Cllr Mary May, who is chairman of the council presented the award and gave Mary a Cornish tin lapel badge with the Cornish crest.

Cllr Burden added: “Mary is an inspiration who continues to give her time freely to the community. I feel this recognition is well deserved, dare I say, overdue.”
