TEN-YEAR-OLD Kelsey Milne had her ponytails cut off in front of her classmates and teachers to benefit The Little Princess Trust and The Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at Derriford Hospital.

Kelsey had her hair cut last Thursday, July 14 at Lewannick School by hairdressers Katie Lewis and Abby Bounsall, who both kindly cut her hair free of charge.

She will donate her ponytails to The Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides wigs and hair pieces for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment.

Kelsey also raised money, which will be donated to Derriford’s The Mustard Tree. In the region of £230 to £250 has been raised so far but donations are still coming in.

Kelsey’s mother, Julie Milne, told the Post: “They had a special school assembly and Kelsey was sat at the front. She was loving it. I cried!

“I keep checking with her everyday if she thinks she did the right think and she says it’s like freedom!”

Julie said Kelsey has her hair trimmed regularly but has never had it cut, adding: “It was a huge thing for her. It was her own idea. Her teacher had breast cancer and her teacher’s hair has grown back short, and Kelsey loved it.

“I put it off for about six months but Kelsey said no, I really want it done, and I want to do it for charity.”

Wendy Tarplee-Morris, trustee and co-founder of the Little Princess Trust, said: “We are very grateful to Kelsey and all of our generous hair donors as it is such a brave and personal gift to give. It is such a kind thing to do, especially for someone as young as Kelsey.

“The wigs which we have made from the donated hair really are very beautiful and can make a huge difference to the person who ultimately receives it. We would like to send our sincere thanks to Kelsey for her kind support and to the hairdressers for giving their time.”
