IT WAS a case of every dog having its day for Hungarian Pumi Levi as he secured a prestigious prize at Crufts 2018 alongside owner Julie Pike, from Bude.

Twenty-one-month-old Levi put his best paw forward at Birmingham’s NEC, suitably impressing judges to scoop the best of breed award last Thursday.

That made it a Crufts to remember for his 54-year-old owner, Julie, who joined thousands of other canine lovers in descending on the West Midlands for the 127th edition of the world’s largest dog show.

For kennels owner Julie, there was no wiping the smile off her face as her beloved Levi enjoyed his moment in the spotlight.

She said: “It’s a super feeling, there aren’t that many in the country, they’re all on the import register. He’s just maturing, he’s really quite young at the moment — he’s only been with us for just over a year. He’s come on so much. It’s unbelievable — the best way to do it is at Crufts.

“It’s absolutely brilliant — we’ve had so much support from everybody, again, especially because he’s an imported breed.

“There’s a lot of people behind them and it’s just great and very encouraging for the future.”
