A CARNIVAL committee chairman is encouraging more float entries and has rejected claims that insurance for taking part in a carnival is 'too expensive'. Launceston Carnival Committee chairman and town mayor Dave Gordon said the committee is looking for more people to enter the event, which takes place on October 11, because it wants the carnival to grow. He said: "Many people over the last few years have said they would like to enter a float into the carnival, but the insurance is too expensive, this is simply not true. "We have been assured by our insurers that there is no policy available for someone taking part in a carnival parade. In fact, the vehicle insurance will normally cover the passengers. "Many other carnivals both locally and nationally include floats with people on board, all taking responsibility for their own actions." Entry forms for this year's carnival are available from http://www.launceston-carnival.co.uk">www.launceston-carnival.co.uk where entries can also be made online. There will be cash prizes available for the first three in many categories with a prize of £100 for the best overall entry.
