YEAR 7 pupils at Budehaven School have joined ranks with the ‘Bude Baggers’, a group dedicated to producing free bags for the public that have been produced from recycled materials like old sheets, duvets or curtains.

This is in response to the large number of plastic bags used and then discarded around the world; it is estimated that over one million bags are used every minute!

Textiles teacher Nick Woodrow said: “The pupils have enjoyed working in groups to undertake, cutting, ironing and using sewing machines; they have learned the need for high quality outcomes, as well as all of the skills needed to work with textiles.

“Last term we produced over 100 bags which meant that each student was able to take a bag home.

“This term we are hoping to exceed that number with the new groups and pass on bags to members of the community.”
