A UNANIMOUS step has been made towards the provision of more bridleways and increased public access around the Holsworthy area.
Last Thursday (September 15), a new public bridleway which connects Cookworthy Forest to Halwill, was opened by Leader of Torridge District Council and county councillor for Holsworthy Rural, Barry Parsons.
The route forms part of a new ten mile (16.5km) circular ride encompassing Halwill, Beaworthy, Halwill Junction and Cookworthy Forest.
Ride the Ruby Country is linked to the Equestrian Devon Project and the emerging network of multi-use trails including the Pegasus Way and the Ruby Way. Whilst Devon County Council carry out the works to create the trails, project co-ordinator Mark Betson works with local businesses and communities to develop ideas, raise awareness and promote the emerging opportunities to a wider audience.
The opening was marked by the unveiling of a signpost in Halwill Moor Plantation by Cllr Parsons, watched by some 40 people who included horse riders and cyclists.
