LAUNCESTON YFC recently presented a cheque to last year’s charity, the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Last year’s chairman, Nathan Dinnis and secretary Lauren Cornelius returned, along with Hazel Cartwright from the BHF, to make the presentation.
A cheque for £2,592 was donated to the charity from fundraising, carried out between October 2014 and 2015. This included activities such as the annual dung run and the Jack Glanville entertainment evening that was held in March 2015.
The spring has continued to be another busy time for the club. May 29, saw Cornwall’s competitions day near Newquay, where Launceston came away gaining most points from the day. A strong performance was put in for both stock judging and the tug of war competitions.
A club spokesperson said: “Well done to everyone that took part”.
Previously in May there was the annual convention and competitions weekend in Blackpool. Launceston YFC was competing in the choir competition on the Sunday. The club had to compete against seven other clubs from around the country and the standard was very high.
The club achieved sixth place in the end, which the club said was very respectable. The club also felt that it was a shame the choir master Roger Williams was unable to be there due to illness. A video of the choir is available on the YFC website or Facebook page.
A club spokesperson added: “Well done to Matt Coles who cycled to Blackpool as part of Cornwall YFCs Wotnot challenge, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
The programme for club nights has been very varied recently with some good visits and skills learnt.
A farm walk was organised on a 2,000 acre arable farm at Torpoint. This farm supplied a lot of the potatoes and onions for Ginsters, and also grows daffodils.
Members said it was nice to see a larger scale, working farm. Members have also been taught circus skills, first aid , archery, and even an evening decorating pottery at Penbugle.
Past Launceston YFC member Ed Humber returned for an evening to talk about what he is currently doing, working for the NFU as a regional advisor and how the NFU has been fighting to help with the TB crisis.
Launceston YFC now looks forward to an action packed summer with shows and more competitions.
