LAUNCESTON Young Farmers celebrated the achievements of the club from the past year when they held their annual dinner and dance at Penstowe Manor on Friday, October 2.
Members tucked into a three-course meal then enjoyed excellent speeches from this year’s speakers.
The cup presentations are always a highlight, rewarding members for all their hard work over the previous twelve months, and this year proved no exception.
Recipients were: Edwin Baker Cup — Boy and girl with most points: Kelly Cornelius and Nick Uglow; JD Rashley Cup — Best new boy and girl member: Sam Thomas and Emma Coles; Jubilee Cup — Best non-committee boy and girl member: Jack Pannell and Kerry Wadge; Ruby Trophy — Most meetings attended by boy and girl member: Nick Uglow, Luke Uglow and Abi Cornelius; Joan Blackmore Drama Cup — Dramatic achievement: Oliver Stephens; Eric Neale stock Judging Cup — Most stock judging points gained throughout the year: Nick Uglow; Fiona French Cup — most helpful member(s): Matt Halls and Nick Uglow; The J C Maynard Plaque — Boy and girl member gaining most points at County Rally: Luke Uglow and Avril Trehane; The D R Batten Public Speaking Cup — Most improved speaker or best achievement across the year: Thomas Routley; Janet Ham Cup — Music and artistic achievement: Charlotte Jenkin and Evie Tumon; C M Butter — Members member Shield — Voted by the members for the member who has been the best all-rounder this year, shown the biggest commitment and would do anything for anyone. This shield is not won by the secretary or chairman — Nick Uglow.
Following the dinner and dance came the annual meeting, where forthcoming officers were elected.
After a further round up of the year, proposals for potential committee members were placed and votes cast. From this incoming president is Tim Bebbington, chairman Oliver Stephens, secretary Matt Halls and treasurer Daniel Uglow along with many other members making up the committee places.
