Cornwall Council and Launceston Town Council have entered into a pioneering new agreement which will guide the way in which the partners work together.

The agreement between Cornwall Council and Launceston Town Council will be the blueprint as similar partnership arrangements have been offered to all town and parish councils. The agreement covers areas such as response times to correspondence, key points of contact, preferred method of contact and timescales for consultation.

Cornwall Council Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhoods Lance Kennedy said: "Cornwall Council is committed to improving and extending its partnership with town and parish councils throughout Cornwall and a key initiative is to set up individual agreements with each council.

"This agreement has been circulated to all town and parish councils for consideration and Launceston Town Council is the first to engage in the new recognition of partnership working in preparation for formal partnership agreements.

"The agreements are not intended to be a rigid set of rules, but rather a guide with each agreement to be negotiated and tailored to allow for local circumstances and services to be taken into account. I see this as an important step in creating a constructive way of working so that each partner knows what is expected of the other and can work together for the benefit of the community."
