Launceston Town Band held its Annual Band Dinner and Presentation Evening on Saturday, January 31 at Trethorne. Paul O'Brien, Launceston Deputy Mayor, presented the awards. Samantha Baker was named Junior Band Learner of the Year; Katie Parkin won the Gordon Hodge Trophy for the Most Improved Person in the Senior Band; The Eric Tiplady Cup went to Eleanor Northy for the Most Promising Young Person in the Senior Band; Merv Osborne won the Chairman's Shield for Player of the Year; and The Conductor's Baton was awarded to Mike Webber to celebrate 60 years of Brass Banding. Steve Wagstaff won the President's Shield for Best All Rounder in the Senior Band and was voted Players' Player of the Year by band members. The section award, Plestin les Greves Cup was awarded to the trombone section, Nigel Joy, Mary Rose and Tony Uglow. Band members enjoyed a super evening, which was rounded off with entertainment from Katie Thomas, a vocalist, who encouraged most people to venture onto the dance floor.
