A TEAM from Kensey Foods, Launceston will be taking part in a 'Super Tough' challenge on Saturday.
Staff from Samworth Brothers sites in Cornwall, including teams from Ginsters, Kensey and Tamar Foods, will be taking part in the event, in which they will compete against teams from other Samworth Brothers companies, customers and suppliers.
Teams will be entered into one of two difficulty levels, 'Tough' and 'Super Tough'. Those brave enough to attempt the 'Tough' course will cycle 40km, canoe 11.5km and embark on a 13.9km hike, with a height gain of 1,063m, all within a 12 hour target.
The 'Super Tough' course also has a target time of 12 hours, however participants must endure 46km by bike, 15km by canoe and 21km on foot rising to 1,300m. The winning team of each level will receive £1,200 for their chosen charity.
The team from Kensey, Rick Donaghy, Nick Taylor, Chris Terry, John Barnes, Jason Hinton, Paul Cioffi, Stuart Crowther and James Leitch, have been chosen to compete in the 'Super Tough' challenge.
GRUELLING
They have undertaken a gruelling training schedule, including cycling and canoeing, to prepare for the event. They have also been busy raising money for their charity of choice, Cornwall Air Ambulance, which they have chosen to support as it is local to the area. So far, they have raised £5,000.
Saturday's event will take place on Coniston Water, as well as in the hills, forests and countryside around Coniston in the Lake District and will be run again by activities provider Distant Horizons.
The event follows on from the huge success of the first ever Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge which took place in June and September 2007, and raised a staggering total of £260,000. As well as each teams' chosen charity benefiting from sponsorship and prize money, the Penrith Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) also received a cheque of £40,000 from the event to buy vital emergency rescue vehicles and equipment.
In 2009 the event will be supporting Coniston MRT, The Duddon and Furness MRT and Coniston 1st Responders.
