From Barry Hume, Cornwall Smallholders Supplies, Launceston: NOW that the security panels are down in the square it looks even worse than ever, the whole area looks more akin to a seaside promenade, it only needs an ice cream wagon parked on it and it would set it off to a tee. Talking of parking, I've noticed on more than one occasion of cars actually parked on the revamped area — is this a sign of things to come? And those cobbles, it looks as though they discovered an old Roman road when they were doing their excavations, if that's the case then they should cover them up again. I notice in the planning applications a plan for another 104 affordable housing. Whilst I have no problem with that, I do feel that this 1.2million pounds for the regeneration (ha ha) of the town could have been spent on creating a better infrastructure for the area by way of health centre and schooling facilities as well as thought out road works. With all the large estates being built on the periphery the whole infrastructure is being over run, in more ways than one. Parking is a great problem, and Madford Lane is now being used as a free car park, at any time of the day vehicles are abandoned on both sides of the road and right on the corners and no one is policing it, it will only get worse. The square is now hardly typical of an historical market town, it's more reminiscent of an hysterical seaside resort.
