ON SUNDAY, May 10, the Rotary Club of Launceston held their annual Disabled Sports Day for people with learning disabilities from all over Cornwall.
Competing against local teams were others from as far away as Penzance, Falmouth, Penwith, Newquay, and Bodmin. Taking part were 12 teams of 8 in games such as Aunt Sally, ball up and over, hoops over the bucket, fun day box races, gutter balls and ending with a knock out tug of war.
All competitors and helpers enjoyed lunch half way through the proceedings comprising burgers in baps, hot dogs, a vegetarian option, puddings and drink, all supplied through the generosity of local
businesses.
A visiting Rotarian Study Exchange Group from Nepal being accommodated and entertained by the Launceston Club also attended and became involved in the
proceedings.
The weather was very good for the event and Launceston College generously made their grounds, sports hall and kitchen available.
Launceston Girl Guides assisted with serving food and marshalling most of the games. Their help was essential and much
appreciated. St John Ambulance staff attended but thankfully not required to administer first aid.
The day ended with Bodmin Team Two running out overall winners. Every participant received a certificate personally signed by club President Paul Smith.
The Rotary Club of Launceston expresses sincere thanks to all those who attended, assisted and
supported this growing and popular event. A spokesman said: "We look forward to next year's sports day with
enthusiasm.
