Launceston Rotary Club was at the town's Tesco supermarket recently with a fire engine they will be providing as part of their current overseas aid project. The club is trying to improve services in Kosovo and Albania, working in partnership with the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, and members were collecting to raise funds for the trip.

Over £240 was contributed which will go towards the fuel needed to take the engine to Northern Albania. It will be driven the 1,800 mile trek by firemen and once there they will provide their fire and rescue service with the relevant training.

The engine is one of two acquired from Merseyside, with the other stationed at Liskeard. It is the latest project overseas project undertaken by Launceston Rotary Club, of which there have been several since first providing aid to Kosovo in 1999. Club member, Barry Kressinger, said:?"We are extremely pleased. We really appreciate the donations the public made and are grateful to Tesco for giving us the opportunity to collect at the store."

Shelley Vanstone, Community Champion at Tesco, said: "Tesco is delighted to be able to offer Launceston Firefighters and Rotarians the opportunity to raise awareness of their forthcoming journey to Kosovo."
