ST LEONARD'S Equitation Centre, Launceston has been shortlisted as one of six possible riding centres in Europe which will train Modern Pentathletes for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Owner Andy Reeve said St Leonard's was one of only two centres in England to be shortlisted. Three of the other shortlisted centres are based in Europe and the other is in Ireland.

Andy trained Heather Fell who gained a silver medal in the Modern Pentathlon in Beijing last year.

'CRUCIAL'

He said: "Because of the format and riding being such a crucial, important part of the Modern Pentathlon they have decided that there's going to be five riding centres in the whole world."

The centres will be inspected before a decision is made. If selected St Leonards will become a training base for all riders from Europe and Eastern Europe. Andy commented: "Let's hope I can get it."
