THOUSANDS of people in North Cornwall, Torridge and West Devon paid tribute at combined Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day services to those who have given their lives for their country in all conflicts. Red poppies — both the symbol of sacrifice and a sign that we must care for those affected by war and the families of those who gave their lives — abounded, as the 'Last Post' reverberated through towns, villages and hamlets.
The Town Square in Launceston was again filled to capacity on Sunday morning for the annual Parade and Service of Remembrance.
Lieut Commander Michael White (RN) stood in as Parade Marshall, and remarked afterwards that he did not realise how many people would take part in the Parade, and was honoured to play his part.
Rev David Michaels led the prayers at the War Memorial and after the two minutes' silence signalled by Launceston Town Band's cornet player Ann Brown sounding the 'Last Post', the Mayor Rob Tremain laid the first wreath.
