THERE have been exciting changes at Launceston Pre-School, which is awaiting the outcome of how much funding it will receive from a supermarket’s community grant scheme.

Shoppers at Launceston Tesco were able to ‘vote’ for the pre-school’s outside play area improvements by putting tokens in the box at the supermarket until December 31.

The charity run pre-school, which is situated on St Thomas Hill, is now waiting to find out whether it will receive £1,000, £2,000 or £5,000 from Tesco’s ‘Bags of Help’ Scheme — the supermarket awards funding to local projects from the money it makes from the carrier bag charge.

Pre-school supervisor Kate Stringer explained some of the improvements.

She said: “We have got an outside classroom that will be a sensory room to help children that have sensory needs.”

There will also be a walk-in rabbit enclosure.

Kate added: “We are calling it ‘pets corner’. The rabbits will be able to run around all day and the children will be able to go in and see them. It picks up a big part of our curriculum as well.”

The pre-school has also built a new outdoor area, with slides and all weather grass.

The ultimate aim is to make the outside area accessible to everyone all year round.
