CORNWALL Council has approved Launceston Medical Centre’s plans to expand.

An application, which seeks to demolish part of the existing surgery on Landlake Road, the addition of a two-storey extension and the formation of additional car parking and exit road, was approved with conditions on October 7.

A meeting in the town last month heard negotiations are still underway to secure funding for the project from NHS England — and negotiations also continue with NHS Property Services regarding the sale of the land needed to expand.

The funds to enable the planning application to be submitted were provided by NHS England.

If the expansion goes ahead, it is expected to take around 12 to 14 months for the build, and around six to eight months for legalities and tendering.
