A LAUNCESTON resident who claims he has complained about damp in his property for the last two years has appealed to the housing association to rectify the problem.
Mr Anthony Langton has lived in the Penwith Housing Association-owned home in Lanstephan for the last two years.
He told the 'Post' that he has made numerous complaints to the housing association about problems with damp, including the first call to them two weeks after moving in.
Mr Langton has an 18-year-old daughter Melissa, who has the mental age of a 9-year-old, and she lives with him at the house. His other two children live with their mum.
One of his concerns is for his and his daughter's health, as he said: "We're constantly freezing in our house. I keep contacting them and it's like banging my head on a brick wall."
He recently complained about damp in his bathroom and Mr Langton said contractors visited the property on three occasions to look at the ceiling.
He claimed that the ceiling was merely painted over, but the cause of the damp wasn't treated, as not long after the ceiling collapsed.
The 'Post' contacted Mr Langton on Tuesday, before going to press, and he said: "It's got a lot worse. The bottom line is I've been on to them week in, week out since 2008 about these damp problems."
He said that a repairs inspector visited his property to take the rest of his ceiling down, which was then replaced, but the ceiling is once again damp.
"It's sodden like they just put it up."
Mr Langton has appealed to his local councillors or MP to make contact with him if they can help him with the situation.
An officer for Penwith Housing confirmed that a repairs inspector visited Mr Langton's property on February 24, when Mr Langton confirmed he was happy with the work that had been carried out. There were still concerns over some of the areas that had shown signs of water penetration, whilst these areas were drying out. At that time, additional heating was also proposed to speed up the drying of the affected areas.
The spokesman added: "We will contact Mr Langton again to make sure what we have proposed is helping and to try and ensure that he is satisfied with the service he's getting from us."
